Learning Disabilites Conferences 2009

Choosing a Conference for LD Information and Networking

Jan 1, 2009 Lynn Moore

Adults with learning disabilities as well as parents, caregivers, and teachers will benefit from the LDA's 2009 Conference.

Parents of a child with a learning disability often struggle with the day-to-day routines of household chores and homework. What seem to be simple directions can be confusing and frustrating to a child with a learning disability. As the child becomes overwhelmed, the entire family feels the impact of frustration and upset.

Attending a conference is a great way to start off the New Year by networking and getting fresh ideas for what works at home and when tackling school work. Many aspects of living with and raising a child with a learning disability can be frustrating. There is no need to stumble through in isolation. The Learning Disabilities Association of America’s 46th International Conference is sure to be packed with information and inspiration for everyone.

The Nuts and Bolts Information

This year’s conference will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah. Conference dates are February 25-28, 2009. Even though the conference is fast approaching, there is still time to register. The conference and related events will take place at the Grand America Hotel.

Conference and banquet speakers represent a mix of professionals in the field as well as individuals who have struggled with learning disabilities and seek to share their success stories with others. Post-secondary exhibits of education programs and job fair event will also take place.

The LDA’s website bills this conference as the largest in the world that focuses on learning disabilities.

Additional Information for Educators

Educators who teach students with learning disabilities at the college level and those who work in teacher-training programs may qualify for an Educator Stipend to attend the conference. More information is available through the LDA.

Additional Conferences on Learning Disabilities

Other conferences that address the strengths and needs of individuals with learning disabilities happen around the country. If the LDA or a local conference is not a good fit, the list below offers a wide selection.

  • Council for Learning Disabilities 31st Annual Conference will be held on February 2, 2009 in Dallas, Texas.
  • Learning Disabilities Worldwide Conference will be held on October 28-30, 2009 in Burlington, Massachusetts

Confirming a Learning Disability

Parents may suspect that their child has a learning disability long before it has been determined to be present. Parents may request that their child’s school district consider the possibility of a learning disability through testing. In some cases, parents will need to consult a physician (such as a neurologist).

Conferences offer the gamut of information: displays, literature, educational material, speakers, and networking. The benefits are well worth the time and money budgeted to attend a conference. The Learning Disabilities Association of America is one of many conference opportunities in the New Year.
